Create An Adult Calm Corner
Calm Corners… Yes, Adults Need Them Too!
In a busy, fast-paced world, it's essential to have a place to catch your breath and decompress. While we can choose to do this anywhere, wouldn't it be lovely to have a dedicated, special space to support self-love and self-care? A space that can help fill your cup? I'll share my favorite ways to achieve this little piece of calm.
Step 1: Find Your Perfect Spot
The spot doesn't need to be anything fancy. Look for an underutilized space that is quiet and won't be distracting. I personally love being by a window with its natural light. A cozy chair in the living room would work just as well as a corner in your bedroom. The key is to ensure the spot is free of clutter and other distractions.
Step 2: Setting the Vibe
This is the fun part, and it's very unique to everyone. Try to engage all your senses to create the perfect atmosphere.
Sight: Choose soft, calm colors that soothe you. I personally love soft whites, grays, and blues. Opt for dimmable lighting or use a candle to create ambiance. Add some greenery or flowers to ground yourself visually, and include personal touches like a journal, favorite books, or beautiful art.
Sound: This is a matter of personal preference. Soft music, white noise, or a guided meditation can help calm your nervous system. Depending on my mood and available time, I experiment with different options.
Touch: A soft blanket is essential for me. Many people also recommend weighted blankets. Keep a fidget toy or stress ball nearby to help release tension or anxious feelings.
Smell: A peaceful environment isn't complete without a calming scent. I love the soothing aromas of lavender or chamomile. You can incorporate these through candles, room spray, fresh flowers, or a diffuser. (Note: I will be launching some very special room mists in the near future so stay tuned!)
Step 3: Enjoy!
Now that the space is set up, how do you use it? There are no rules! I often use my calm corner for my morning routine, with all my essentials laid out for journaling, practicing gratitude, and meditation. On other days, I simply take a 5-minute reset in this dedicated space. It’s available to you at any time throughout the day and is such a gift to ourselves when we choose to take a moment for our own well-being.
I hope this was helpful! I'd love to see the calm corner you create! Feel free to tag me @thequietudes on Instagram or send me a note at abby@thequietudes.com and share your thoughts. As always, thank you for being here with me!
